COUPLED
Shift Collaborative Studio presents Coupled,
a two-person exhibition featuring artists Andrew Kaufman and Donna
Stack. Coupled not only references the pairís recent reunion, but
also references the coupling systems existent in their separate bodies
of work. Kaufman is presenting new work investigating trauma as evidenced
by end trajectories of forcible impact with video documentation of shattered
glasses and wall mounted splats. Stack is also presenting new work investigating
psychoanalytical notions of self, suffering and loss with sutured animal
forms and rabbit fur.
Donna Stack and Andrew Kaufman received their Master of Fine Arts from
the University of South Florida in 2002. Donna Stack is a multi-media
artist who utilizes installation, video and performance, whose work addresses
issues of identity and authenticity. Andrew Kaufman is a multi-media artist
whose work addresses complex issues of identity and the effects of social
dogma on the evolution of the already fractured post-modern self. Stack
and Kaufman have been exhibited widely in national and international venues,
are in several private collections and their work has been reviewed in
a number of publications including artUS, Mavin and Art Papers. Stack
and Kaufman currently live in Ellensburg, WA, where they are professors
in the Department of Art at Central Washington University.
SHIFT is a collaborative artistsí studio that has opened in the
newly renovated Tashiro-Kaplan arts complex. SHIFT was established as
an artist-run space with the primary goal of supporting emergent, practicing
Northwest area artists. Shift members include Garth Amundson, Crystal
