shift studio

Shift is a collaborative artistís studio that opened in December 2004 in the newly renovated Tashiro-Kaplan arts complex, an artist live/work building at 306 S. Washington in the Pioneer Square district.
Shift was established, out of necessity, as an artist-run space, with the primary goal of supporting emergent practicing Northwest area artists.

Shift is made up of eleven members who work in a range of media from painting and photography to mixed media collage and digital prints.
Shift members focus on combining media in experimental and conceptual formats.

Visitors can anticipate finding artwork created using media as diverse as painting, sculpture, intaglio, digital images, mixed media collage, as well as traditional and historical photographic techniques like cyanotype and albumen.
The members of Shift are dedicated to creating challenging and innovative work.

Shift exists as a venue for artists to exhibit, develop, and advance their work, and is committed to exhibiting and celebrating art of diverse media and rigorous content.

Shift welcomes visitors by appointment, in addition to regular 1st Thursday gallery walks and open studio dates in the Tashiro-Kaplan complex.
