Shift Collaborative Studio is please to present Double
Vision, a group exhibition curated by Elise Richman,
featuring the work of three pairs of artists, Kyle Cook and Ryan Cronk,
Andrea Moreau and Eric Gibbons, and Jonathan Bucci and Elise Richman.
Though separated geographically, different circumstances brought each
pair together, inspiring the artistic synthesis that each work in this
exhibition represents.
Jonathan Bucci (Salem, OR) and Elise Richman (Tacoma,
WA) met in Washington, DC in 1999. Over the years they have exhibited
together and visited each other’s studios but this marks the first
time they’ve jointly made art. The artists collaborated on a large
multi-media drawing that they mailed back and forth and each created versions
of a common subject, a river delta. Bucci’s piece is sculptural
and Richman’s is two-dimensional.
Two Star Hotel is a collaborative duo consisting of Eric
Gibbons (Austin, TX) and Andrea Moreau (Brooklyn, NY). They began working
together while they were residents at the Vermont Studio Center in June
of 2006, and their collaborative work has continued to evolve with the
assistance of the U.S. Postal Service. Gibbons and Moreau are exhibiting
twenty small scale and three 3’x4’ mixed-media works on paper.
Kyle Cook (Brooklyn, NY) and Ryan Cronk’s (Albuquerque,
NM) drawings and paintings are the result of two best friends “talking”
about art and imagery by way of silent collaboration. The works included
in this exhibition began with an accordion book Cronk started in Mexico
which was sent and completed by Cook in New York. They are also exhibiting
several collaborative mixed media drawings.
SHIFT is an artist’s coop located in the Tashiro-Kaplan
arts complex at 306 S. Washington St. SHIFT was established as an artist-run
space, with the primary goal of supporting emergent practicing Northwest
area artists. Additional Shift members include Garth Amundsen, Susanna
Bluhm, Sarah Gilbert, and Pierre Gour, Cara Jaye, Claire Jauregui, Davin
& Michael Knight, Amy Lin, Eugene Parnell, and Lun-Yi Tsai.
